The objective of the project was to design an energy storage battery system to power the trams during rush hours instead of building a new substation. The control strategy for the N and N-1 scenarios must be established.
Use the RET tram model to perform the study. The following questions can be solved: - Is the battery a solution for replacing a substation during rush hours? - Can the battery be charged from the braking of the vehicles in valley hours? - Which is the most effective control strategy for the battery converter? - How many hours can the battery deliver energy in the rush hour when the nearby substation is disconnected? - Can the battery maintain the voltage of the OCS above 500V when the nearby substation is disconnected? - Is the battery a suitable solution in other locations of the tram network?
