Helsinki metro

Helsinki metro

The objectives were to study the effect of regenerative braking and simulate higher frequencies to check if changes in the network are required.

Description of the project:

Create the model of the metro network with different 3rd rail technologies. New substations have been added to the model. The following problems are solved using the simulation tool: - Is the voltage of the contact wire within the values defined in EN50163? - How many new substations are needed to run the new schedules? - How much braking energy can be reused if the vehicles use regenerative instead of rheostatic braking? - How much energy can be saved if the 3rd rail steel is replaced by aluminum? - Are additional feeding cables needed to deliver all the energy required for the new schedule?
