The objectives of the project were to study the improvement in the network using 3rd rail steel or aluminum, simulate higher frequencies and check if changes in the network are required and study how to reduce the return rail voltages.
Model of the DC traction network. The following problems are solved using the simulation tool: - How many new substations are needed to run the new frequency? - What improvements are made to the infrastructure when changing from steel to aluminum 3rd rail? - What strategies can be used to reduce return circuit voltage below 120V? - Are additional feeding cables needed to deliver all the energy required for the new schedule?
